Beam spread (approximation)

Ultrasonic beams spread as they propagate. A simple geometric model uses element size and wavelength to estimate the -6 dB beam boundary; this page uses a textbook-style approximation for quick classroom use.

Always refer to probe datasheets, Snell’s law at interfaces, and procedure limits for real inspections.
